Allen keeps getting absorbed by its neighbours.
A Plano firm, two exits south, doing the search work, the site, the writing, the outreach list and the CRM as one job rather than five invoices.
A tight city wedged between two much louder ones.
Allen sits on Highway 75 with Plano immediately below it and McKinney immediately above, and it is compact enough that a search radius drawn around Bethany Drive or Exchange Parkway takes in large parts of both. When somebody in Allen searches for a service, the results are full of companies whose addresses are elsewhere and whose marketing budgets are larger. Being physically here does not automatically win you the local pack, and a lot of Allen owners assume it should.
The compensating fact is that Allen is genuinely a community rather than a commuter grid. It is a city where one high school football team empties the town on a Friday night, where the same names recur on the same committees, and where a recommendation in a neighbourhood group travels faster than any advertisement. That is a real advantage, and it is almost always being wasted, because the recommendation sends people to a search bar and the search bar hands them a competitor.
So the work here is narrower than it looks. Close the gap between what people already say about you and what a stranger finds when they check. Then take the surrounding towns, Fairview, Lucas, Parker and Wylie, where hardly anybody has written anything worth ranking.
Everything that happens before the phone rings.

Straight answers, asked first.
Usually because they have more of everything Google counts: reviews, pages, links and years. Allen is small enough that a handful of well built pages and a properly maintained profile can close that gap, which is not true in a bigger city.
It matters as the second step. Somebody posts your name in a local group, four other people look you up before calling, and what they find decides whether the recommendation converts. Search is not competing with the referral, it is finishing it.
Often yes, and they are among the easier wins nearby because far fewer businesses bother writing anything real about them. The test is whether you actually work there and can say something specific. If not, leave it out.
No. We work out of Plano, a couple of exits down Highway 75. We have no Allen office and no Allen client yet, and we would rather write that than list a city we have never worked in.
What we can show you instead of an Allen client.
The honest answer is that we can point at Jackson Roofing, a family roofer down in Plano, and nothing closer.
37We hold every part of it: what they rank for, what the site says, what gets published, and a researched list of North Texas businesses that hire roofers. Allen accounts for 37 of the businesses on that list, which is a count of prospects for one client and nothing else. It is not a market size and it is not a tally of our own clients here, because we do not have one here.
Their dashboard shows what has actually gone out and when, which is the only version of a progress report we think is worth sending.
