Ranking on Google is a lot like lawn care. Everybody claims they keep up with it, and you can tell who actually does.
Local SEO for a DFW home service business comes down to four systems: an optimized Google Business Profile, real city landing pages, consistent keyword-targeted content, and a steady flow of fresh reviews. None of the four is complicated on its own. The entire game is running all four every single month without letting one slide, which is exactly where almost everyone loses. This is the playbook we run for our clients, laid out in full so you can run it yourself if you want to.
How do I win the Google map pack?
The map pack is the little three-business box with the map that sits above the normal blue links. For "near me" and "in my city" searches, that box gets the clicks, so winning it is the highest-value thing you can do in local search. Google is unusually direct about what decides who lands in it. Its local ranking guidance names three factors and nothing else:
- Relevance. Google's words: "how well a Business Profile matches what someone is searching for." This is the one your categories, services, and description control.
- Distance. "How far each business is from the customer who's searching." You cannot move your shop, but you can build the city pages that let you compete slightly further out.
- Prominence. "How well-known a business is." Reviews, mentions, and the website behind the profile all feed this one.
Two things are worth underlining there. The same page states flatly that "there's no way to request or pay for a better local ranking on Google," so nobody selling you a shortcut has one. And it says "businesses with complete and accurate info are more likely to show up in local search results," which is the least glamorous sentence in local SEO and the most profitable.
Here is what an audit of a DFW profile usually turns up. It was set up years ago, half the fields are blank, the newest photo is from the day it was claimed, and the primary category says "contractor" when the business does roofing. Google fills that box with profiles that look alive. A profile that has not moved since 2023 does not look alive, and that neglect all around you is your opening. Being merely consistent beats most of your competition, because most of your competition set it up once and walked away.
Why do city landing pages matter so much?
Google matches a searcher to the page that is most clearly about their specific city, and one generic "we serve all of DFW" page is really about nowhere in particular. A dedicated Plano page and a dedicated Frisco page will beat that generic page every time, because each one gives Google a clear, specific match for someone in that town.
The catch is they have to be genuinely different pages, not one page copied twelve times with the city name find-and-replaced. Google has seen that trick a million times and ignores it. The version that works talks about that city's actual neighborhoods, the problems common to your trade there, and real jobs you have done in that area. That is slower to build, which is exactly why it works. We build these one at a time for clients, deliberately, because ten real city pages will generally out-rank fifty thin clones.
What content should a home service business actually publish?
Publish the answers to the questions your customers are already typing: "roof replacement cost Plano," "how often should I service my AC in Texas," "do I need a permit to replace a fence." Two well-structured posts a month is plenty. Do that consistently and Google starts treating your website as the local authority on your trade, which lifts everything else you rank for.
The mistake almost everyone makes is publishing about themselves. Nobody on earth searches "our team had a great quarter." We write cost and how-to pages first for our clients, because cost questions are what people search in the last hour before they decide who to hire, and being the clear, honest answer to that question is worth more than any amount of company news. That focus on buyer-intent content is the core of our local SEO service.
How do I get more Google reviews, and why do they matter?
Reviews are one of the strongest signals for the map pack, and the trap is that memory does not survive a busy week. You finish a great job, you mean to ask, and by Friday evening it is gone. The fix is a system, not willpower: a review text queued the moment a job is marked complete, with a direct link that drops the customer straight onto your review form. One tap for them, one tap for you.
Recency matters as much as raw count, and there is a number for it. BrightLocal's 2026 Local Consumer Review Survey reports that 97% of consumers read reviews for local businesses, that 41% "always" do, up from 29% the year before, and, the finding that should change how you work, that 74% seek reviews written in the last three months. Read that last one again. Twelve five-star reviews from 2023 are not a review page to three quarters of the people looking at you. They are an archive. We wire the review request into the job-completion step so it is drafted every time, and a person still sends it.
How long does local SEO take to actually work?
Expect the first real movement in sixty to ninety days, and meaningful, steady lead flow by month four to six. Anyone promising you page one in two weeks is either guessing or selling something they cannot deliver, and we would rather give you the honest timeline and still be working together in month six than win you with a number we would have to walk back.
The upside of that patience is that local SEO compounds. Every month of content and every new review makes the next month stronger, and unlike paid ads, the work you paid for back in March is still ranking and still bringing in calls in November. You are building an asset, not renting attention.
What Wing Digital does about it
We run all four systems as one monthly service so none of them slides: your Google Business Profile managed and posted to every week, two keyword-targeted blog posts written and published every month, city pages built one real page at a time, and a monthly ranking report written in plain English so you can watch the climb yourself instead of taking our word for it.
Ranking is only the first quarter of the job. Wing Digital builds and runs the whole online presence for a DFW business, which is the search ranking, the website those city pages live on, the content that keeps arriving, the outreach list, and the CRM that answers a new lead in minutes and asks for the review when the job is done. Getting found only pays if the rest of it is standing behind you, which is why we run all of it rather than selling the ranking on its own.
It is month to month with no contract, and your exact quote comes from the free consultation. If you would rather we look at your current setup first, the fifteen-minute consultation is free and we will audit your profile live on the call, whether you hire us or not.
